Reflexology |
|
Reflexology has been found to be practiced in different cultures for many thousands of years, with even pictures of reflexology in Egyptian tombs. It works on the principle of reflex zones in the feet which correspond to parts of the body. It benefits both the physical and emotional health of the body, treating the whole body, mind and spirit to aid a state of balance and relaxation.
You will be asked to remove only your footwear and you will lie on a massage couch whilst I work on your feet and ankles.
Generally, most clients report that a reflexology treatment is wonderfully relaxing and soothing, and many people fall asleep. Each session will last about an hour, although the first session may take a little longer and, in most cases, a series of sessions are necessary to resolve any problems. A full consultation will be given prior to initial treatment to ensure there are no medical conditions preventing treatment.
There are 7,000-7,200 nerve endings in the human foot, and each of these is a reflex point that corresponds to a body part. Reflexology uses special finger and thumb manipulations to stimulate reflex points, which in turn, stimulate the flow of energy to the corresponding body part. Gradually balance is restored and the body’s ability to heal itself is stimulated, both physically and emotionally. Visible signs of imbalance could be hard skin, discolouration of skin (e.g. yellowing), marks on the foot (red marks can indicate acute problems), and bunions. The odour, temperature, and moistness of a foot also play a part in assessing it.
It will often take several treatments to awaken the reflexes and start to see some effect. All the imbalances found during a treatment will be discussed with you. Most clients find the benefits increase through ongoing treatments. |
